Planning & Zoning

Pike County Missouri has no planning and zoning laws or ordinances. We do have health ordinances that pertain to sewage disposal, which comply with MO requirements. Transportation

Public Port Authority

Barge service is provided to Pike County and the surrounding areas via the Mississippi River (15 mi.) at a private port in Louisiana, Missouri. Pike/Lincoln County Port authority has purchased and is currently remodeling an existing river port on the Mississippi River in Clarksville, MO to provide additional public port services. This project will allow economic development opportunities in this region and assist countless businesses by providing the loading and offloading of products to and/or from barge and rail. Rail

Missouri ranks tenth in the U.S. In total rail mileage and rail traffic. Both the Kansas City Southern and Burlington Northern Railways provide excellent rail service to our local businesses. The Kansas City Southern railway runs along U.S. Hwy 54 and through Pike County. Kansas City Southern runs thru both Kansas City and St. Louis, where there are multiple interchanges. Burlington Northern runs north to south with access in the county as well. 

Highways

Pike County has access to several major highways. U.S. Highway 61 is a 4-lane highway known as “The Avenue of the Saints”. It runs north to St. Paul, MN and south to St. Louis, MO. U.S. Highway 54 is a 2-lane highway that runs west & south to I-70 and east to I-72. State Highway 79 is also a 2-lane highway and is known as Missouri’s “Scenic Byway”. It runs south to I-70 and north to State Highway 36. I-70 is the nearest interstate and is located 45 miles from Pike County.

Air

Bowling Green Municipal Airport

For more information on the economic development potential at the airport visit: https://www.bowlinggreen-mo.gov/municipal-airport/ The Bowling Green Municipal Airport is located two miles northwest of the city. Airside facilities include a single runway and taxiway system. Runway 13/31 is 3,204 feet long by 50 feet wide. The taxiway consists of a single 25-foot connecting taxiway. Landside facilities include a 4,000-plus sf. FBO/community hanger, 3-unit T-hanger and 4-unit T-hanger. BGMA is a general aviation airport. It maintains a B-I Reference Code. In addition to having public utilities and easy roadway access, BGMA is capable of accommodating light industrial/manufacturing operations on site. 

Healthcare Services

Pike County Memorial Hospital is a licensed acute care facility, and has proudly served the residents of Pike County, Missouri with a tradition of quality healthcare since 1928. The hospital provides extensive inpatient and outpatient services that include the latest technologies in radiology, laboratory testing, surgery, physical therapy and much more. The hospitals clinics include services in: Allergy, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Pulmonology, Gynecology and Pain Management, and also has multiple new services to enhance those already in place including: Cardiac Rehabilitation, Sleep Diagnostics, Nuclear Medicine, Rheumatology Clinic, and Neurology Clinic. The hospital also boasts the area's ONLY Certified Athletic Trainer, who evaluates area athletes before their seasons begin and is at the sidelines at many area games to deliver rapid evaluation and begin care should injury occur. Their physical therapy and sports medicine department provides FREE injury assessments at any time. Rehabilitation for stroke, traumatic injuries or post-operative orthopedic conditions either in the outpatient setting or in the "Swing-bed" program, which allows the patient to regain strength after surgery or an illness so they can return home. Additionally, their state-of-the-art Emergency Department is manned 24-hours a day, and operates the ambulance service for the Pike County area.

In addition to the services provided through the hospital, there are Eastern Missouri Health Services clinics located in Bowling Green and Louisiana that provide family health medical services to individuals in the community.

Education and Training

Pike County Schools offer the latest technology in their computer labs and  industrial arts programs, and our low student-to-teacher ratios allow teachers more one-on-one time with the students. College preparatory and foreign language classes are available, along with business, accounting, agricultural science and industrial technology programs. Students are also offered the opportunity to attend technical programs at Pike Lincoln Technical Center. These programs prepare students for skilled employment after graduation.


Area Colleges - Pike County is centrally located with respect to several area colleges such as St. Charles Community College, Hannibal LaGrange University, Moberly Area Community College, and Missouri Baptist University. Pike Lincoln Technical Center and St. Charles Community College are educational institutions designed to provide employers with up-to-date classes in career and technical training on site or on campus.

Utilities

Electric service - The incorporated cities (Bowling Green, Louisiana and Clarksville) are  served by Ameren UE Company. Ameren UE can be described as business-friendly,  energy–plentiful, reliable and stable. Ameren UE’s overall electric  rates are currently 20 percent below the national average. The rural  areas of Pike County are serviced by Cuivre River Electric Cooperative, Dacott Energy Services,  Ralls Co. Electric Cooperative. The Rural Electric Cooperatives also  have incentives available to help businesses who are serviced by them.

Natural Gas Service -  Ameren UE Company and Liberty Utilities serve the incorporated cities of Bowling  Green, Louisiana and Clarksville. Propane gas is available in the rural  areas of Pike County. Also available to companies looking at sites in  Bowling Green and Louisiana is the ANR Pipeline. The pipeline lays just  north of both cities.
